These are Jackie's babies. We will be looking for foster homes for them once they are 8 wks old (march 26th). The foster home would have the pups till they are vetted and ready to go to their forever home at 12 wks of age. We want the pups to go to foster home in pairs so they have each other to play with and continue to learn with. Mom is a lab mix and we believe (going by markings) that the dad may have been a boxer but until the pups are older (born Jan 29th) we cannot be sure. Video of mom and pups can be found at http://www.youtube.com/thedoghouse2010
Jackie was in a Kentucky shelter while VERY pregnant when brought here to have her babies as mom and newborns do not have a very good survival rate in shelters. 36 hours after arrival in Rochester, NY the babies were born. Momma is a great girl who is looking after her babies and had/has no problem with the foster family handling the babies. Babies have been handled since birth and are very 'people' oriented already. If you love puppies but don't want to make the life-time commitment to one just yet, please consider fostering and fill out the foster application on our website.
We provide as much information on each animal's history, disposition and health as we can gather. We strongly believe that honesty is the best policy. We want each of our animals to find the RIGHT home, not just ANY home. Likewise, we want you to find the pet who best matches your lifestyle and interests. You will first be required to complete our adoption application. Once received, a WT rep will contact you via phone or e-mail. If it seems you are a good fit for each other based on the info you provided, a phone interview will follow. If you are renting, we require proof that you are allowed to have a pet as well as any breed or size restrictions that may exist. If you have pets or did previously, we require your vet information and we will call them to verify that your pets are in good health, current on vaccines and spayed/neutered. We require that all pets in the home be spayed/neutered unless there are health reasons that can be verified with the vet. The final step is a home visit, where an WT volunteer comes to your home to verify your home is a safe place for an animal. It is also a time where the volunteer can answer questions and discuss safety precautions. In our Adoption Agreement, we require that every animal be spayed/neutered. This is VERY important as the overpopulation of dogs and cats in our country is a sad result of too many unplanned litters! If for any reason the match is not as perfect as we all had hoped, the dog or cat must be returned to Wooftown, not given away or turned in to a shelter. Serious fines apply to violators of the Wooftown Agreement to Adopt. So be clear about what you are signing and be prepared to abide by the contract. It is legally binding and we take it very seriously.
