Then naps nestled in with her buddies while the humans are at work, and exuberant greetings when we return. She still wants to crawl up on our laps, but settles for just her head or a paw (or two), and will remove her paw as soon as you point to the floor. She's smart and sweet and mellow -- she'll make a great companion for anyone who has other dog(s) and more doggie love to give.
10/25/12 - Lily is such a good girl. She loves to be near her human companions -- the closer the better! She'd prefer to be up in our laps but she settles for resting her head on our laps (never mind if you're trying to read the newspaper on your lap!) and going under the desk to snuggle up against my legs while I'm at the computer. She runs and plays with her canine companions and now trusts them enough to snuggle up with them for naps. She's so good at picking up visual cues from the humans and fellow dogs it's easy to forget she can't hear. And she's making the resident boxers smarter because they're learning the hand signals we give Lily! The closest thing to a bad habit is Lily's preference to be up on a bed or couch, and we're working on teaching her to wait to be invited up on the furniture. Other than that she's as good as can be... the perfect companion and playmate, and very gentle. And she has the softest coat ... you can't help but hug her!
10/21/12 - Lily returned to rescue. Lily arrived today. She is sweet and affectionate and has a beautiful soft white coat. She is deaf, but she knows some signs and will go in the direction you point to. She spent the morning playing with our two boxers and is taking a well deserved nap. We'll write more as she settles in.
06/02/07 - Hello, this is mom to Kerra or as she is now called Lily, Everything is settling in beautifully here. My jealous one sweetie is fine so far, Patches and Lily play all the time and we love her.
5/24/07- Kerra was adopted!
05/18/07 - Kerra attended a BRAD (Boxer Rescue Awareness Day) recently. What a delightful trooper she turned out to be. It was a long day for Kerra, but she had kisses for everyone. Even though she couldn't hear the squeaks, squawks, shouts, and general clamor at Petsmart, it still could have turned out to be a stressful time for her what with all those weird looking (and smelling) strangers. Not so...she delighted in meeting new adults, kids and pooches and never showed signs of fatigue. She slept like a log for the rest of the day when she returned to her foster home, though.
A few remaining things an adoptive home should know about Kerra:
She has had ONLY 3 instances of submissive peeing and this happened when people came into the house and made direct eye contact with her. This should not be an issue as long as visitors know that it's best to greet the humans of the household first!
Kerra can still be skittish at times. When she is you'll have success getting her to come to you if you move slowly, show her your hands, wiggle your fingers to "come here" and bend a little to her level. She is quite the follower and will let the resident boxers lead the way before happily joining in. We use lots of rewards in the form of treats and petting. We touch her softly as often as possible so she is less likely to startle when she doesn't see/hear you coming. An easy way to get her to come to you i
