*Note- Because I'm deaf, I'll need someone who is home most of the time- stay-home, work at home, retired. 07/22/13 - Hi, it's Ava here! I'm having a good summer and I'm really learning my manners. Now I watch quietly out the window when dogs walk by on the sidewalk, with just a bark or two to make sure Foster Mom sees what's going on. And I watch the neighbors outside the fence with just a few barks to say hi... Foster Mom is always clapping for me so I know I'm being good! She probably thinks the hearing dogs could learn a thing or two from me. Today foster Mom & Dad & the other 2 dogs and I went for a long walk and I was a good girl just watching different dogs and people and kids and bikes and strollers...lots of new things, and I hardly pulled on the leash at all! Foster Mom and Dad will miss me but they know I'm ready for my forever home... I hope it's with you!
06/09/13 - Hi, this is Ava. I've been doing and learning lots of new things! Now I know what furniture I can get on whenever I want, and what furniture I wait for Foster Mom to "wave me up" onto. And I'm learning to sit for treats -- I'll do just about anything for treats! Foster Mom says I've found my voice since I like to look out the porch windows and "say hello" to all the dogs walking by on the sidewalk. I stayed with Foster Mom's sister for a weekend and played with her 2 tiny terriers... Foster Aunt said I was a very good girl and can come back anytime! I'm relaxed and well behaved even when Foster Mom & Dad have lots of people over, and I do my happy grunt/growl for anyone who pets and hugs me. Everyone who meets me tells Foster Mom & Dad I'm such a sweet girl they don't know why I'm still here... I'm ready for my forever home!
04/13/13 - Hi this is Ava. Foster Mom can't believe I'm still here and she said maybe I should speak for myself now. Has she told you that I'm cute and tiny and I'm a very good girl? I really am! I like to play and run around sometimes (of course -- I'm a Boxer!), but mostly I'm quiet and mellow and sweet. I'm so quiet sometimes I surprise Foster Mom, she doesn't know I've been sitting quietly waiting for her while she's in the shower or at the stove or on the computer. I love to snuggle next to my furry friends and when I'm really lucky I can snuggle in between Foster Mom AND my furry friends. Foster Mom is spoiling me like crazy -- she thinks I've never been loved before. But who wouldn't love me?! 03/22/13 - Ava's looking and feeling great... She is up over 45 pounds, her incisions have healed and her hair is growing back. And we know she feels better and is more relaxed, because she's playful with us, runs in the yard with the other dogs and then curls up with us to sleep when she's had enough! We've only heard Ava bark twice in the 6 weeks she's been here. She's very quiet, except for the purr/groan she does when she gets hugs and ear rubs... and when she's about to be fed! Ava will make some lucky family very happy!
03/11/13 - Ava had some benign growths removed last week and is doing great. She also has had something bothering her stomach (she was licking the rugs and floors and eating plants and grass to make herself throw up) but after changing her to a good quality kibble she is feeling much better now. She still needs to put on a few pounds but her appetite is very good so it shouldn't take long! She's got the hang of the human and canine routines here, and is one of the gang. She doesn't need to be crated at night anymore, and knows when & where to do her business. She takes visual cues from the other dogs and it's easy to forget that she's deaf. She responds to pointing (she'll go in the direction y
